Oviedo,
FL – Representative Sandy Adams (R-Oviedo) today announced her successful efforts on behalf of her constituents to prevent a revenue increase requested by Aqua Florida. According to estimates from the Attorney General’s Office, these rate increases could have reached as high as 355 percent for water and 320 percent for wastewater service.
In response to the efforts of Representative Adams, Aqua Utilities Florida, Inc (AUF) filed a motion today which read in part, “pursuant to Florida Administrative Code Rule 28-106.204, moves that its prior request for interim rates for the Chuluota water and wastewater system ("Chuluota System" or "System") be withdrawn from consideration in this docket because of special and compelling factors that are unique to the Chuluota System“
“Aqua customers in my district have repeatedly complained about the poor service they have received,” said Representative Adams. “Sharply raising the water and wastewater rates on
Florida’s working families while providing terrible service and poor water quality would have added insult to injury.”
Representative Adams worked closely with Attorney General Bill McCollum to prevent Aqua from raising its rates. In addition to petitioning Attorney General McCollum, Representative Adams
also petitioned the Public Services Commission to hold hearings in her community and to take testimony from Aqua customers.
“I have been fighting for quality water at reasonable rates for the people of my community, and I appreciate the intervention of Attorney General McCollum on their behalf,” said Representative Sandy Adams, whose district encompasses the area serviced by Aqua Florida. “This situation illustrates how important it is to protect our citizens.”
