Jobs and the Economy

The most important issue to Central Florida voters, and to all Americans, is how to get people back to work and our economy moving again. Sandy is working as your representative to give private sector companies the tools they need to hire people and grow their companies – her top legislative priority. That means eliminating red tape, reducing and streamlining taxes, and getting government out of the way of the economic engine of our economy – small business. Sandy will continue to support common sense fiscally responsible policies that do not add to our nation’s debt and deficit and that help put people back to work.

Health Care

President Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Suzanne Kosmas pushed through a government takeover of your healthcare – fully one sixth of the economy. Sandy has strongly opposed this legislation since it was first conceived, sponsoring a bill in the Florida House opposing it, and voting to repeal it in Congress. Sandy knows from years of listening to patients, doctors and medical providers that true reform must focus on increasing access and decreasing costs, and not putting a government bureaucrat between you and your doctor.

Debt and Deficits

Four years of a Democrat controlled Congress and President Obama in the White House have seen the fastest expansion of debt and deficits in our nation’s history. Their focus on trillion dollar stimulus bills and massive government bailouts have led to the fiscal crisis we face today. Sandy opposed the stimulus bills and has supported the first year over year federal budget cuts since post World War II. America can no longer return to the old ways of doing business in Washington, D.C. and Sandy will continue to work for change in the way government operates.

NASA

Kennedy Space Center workers have been the backbone of the United States’ space exploration and scientific research throughout NASA’s history. After President Obama cancelled Constellation without a follow-on program to replace it, the Space Coast is undergoing a transition from the shuttle program to the next generation of human spaceflight. Sandy is working to find ways to bring new investments to Central Florida to keep families and jobs in their homes, and rockets in the air. She will continue to support policies that correctly prioritize NASA’s spending, ensuring our nation will once again have American astronauts, flying on American built rockets, back into outer space.

Second Amendment

As a Deputy Sheriff for seventeen years, Sandy knows that your individual right to keep and bear arms is enshrined in the Constitution and one that she has sworn to preserve and protect. A member of the Judiciary Committee, Sandy has fought in Congress to protect your Second Amendment rights, while ensuring that those who violate our nation’s firearm laws are prosecuted and that guns are kept out of the hands of those who should not have them. Sandy will continue to be a strong defender of the Second Amendment and your right to keep and bear arms.

Immigration

America is a nation built on the hard work and ingenuity of peoples from around the world. Millions of people have come to the United States in search of a better life for themselves and their families, including many fleeing the threat of oppression and genocide. For more than two centuries our nation has given others the opportunity to emigrate to the United States – an opportunity millions of people have taken advantage of in a legal manner. Sandy supports policies that strengthen our nation’s border security, oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants, and reform and strengthen programs to allow for legal immigration. Our nation can continue our proud heritage of welcoming those individuals willing to follow the law and make our country brighter, without offering amnesty to those who came here illegally.

Taxes

Washington, D.C. does not have a taxing problem, it has a spending problem. Sandy knows that hard-working Americans can make better choices about how to spend their money than IRS officials and government bureaucrats. That is why she supports lower taxes for all Americans, real reform to the tax code, and a fundamental review of the way that Washington, D.C. raises revenue to pay for necessary governmental programs. A supporter of the Fair Tax, Sandy is working to close tax loopholes, reduce taxes, and make America’s tax system fairer for all taxpayers.

Social Security and Medicare

America made a sacred promise to generations of working men and women that they would be taken care of in their golden years. After working and paying into Medicare and Social Security their entire lives, it is only fair that Congress take steps to strengthen and protect these programs for current and future generations of retirees. Sandy knows that we cannot ask those seniors reliant on Social Security and Medicare to make changes to their retirement plans after their working years are over, which is why she opposes any efforts to change Social Security and Medicare for those aged 55 and above. To ensure the long-term solvency of the programs for those younger Americans, Sandy is willing to consider any serious ideas for how to strengthen these social safety nets for future generations. Keeping our promise to American seniors is too important to ignore.

Veterans

Those who have volunteered to serve and protect our nation from the threat of tyranny and oppression deserve our highest praise and thanks. Brave men and women who fought on the battlefields of Normandy, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and countless other battlefronts around the world are true heroes. Sandy is the daughter of a World War II and Korean veteran, having served herself in the Air Force. Coming from a military family Sandy knows the importance of keeping our promises to those soldiers who put their lives on the line for freedom and security here at home. Whether it is helping Iraq and Afghanistan veterans with their transition back home, helping find the right treatment for the Vietnam veteran’s war wound, or funding the construction of the new VA Hospital in Orlando, Sandy will always be there for Florida’s veteran community.
