Sandy Adams Thoughts on State of the Union Address

January 27, 2010

Last night Americans were disappointed to hear a message of excuses and blame instead of much needed answers and relief.  We must implement policies that will actually stimulate the economy instead of our government.

Even more disappointing was a vote by Senate Democrats this morning to increase the debt ceiling by $1.9 trillion, just a day after President Obama promised to freeze spending. We need across the board tax cuts to help families, invigorate the private sector and create new jobs.  We need real healthcare reform that is created in an open environment designed with our input and without increased costs.  With federal debt over $100,000 per household, the spending simply must stop.  We need an end to the empty promisesAmericans are speaking loud and clear, but Washington is not listening.

I hear you.  I have faced personal challenges in my own life, and I can empathize with the many Floridians in District 24 who are hurting, have lost their jobs, can’t afford basic healthcare and are afraid of the coming changes.  Our leaders on both sides of the aisle need to come together to find common ground and bring real solutions to our aching nation.

As a State Representative for the past 7 years, I have done just that.  I have worked with my conservative colleagues and invited friends of differing opinion to join the debate in effort to build consensus on complex issues.  I will do the same for you in Washington.
